Southern Suns Club Policy: Playing Uniform & Jersey Number Allocation
Each member purchases and owns a playing uniform consisting of a reversible singlet and shorts. Each singlet includes a unique jersey number, allocated based on the following policy.
To minimize number clashes within each age group, the club maintains a three-year buffer for each assigned number. For example:
• A player born in 2010 is allocated jersey number 20.
• Jersey number 20 will not be allocated to any other player born in 2009, 2010, or 2011.
• If no valid numbers are available for a particular birth year, the club will assign a number outside of this policy and inform the family. That player will not be required to purchase a new singlet if a number clash occurs in the future.
Jersey Number Allocation Policy
Southern Suns adheres to the following guidelines for singlet number allocation:
• Under FIBA regulations, players may be assigned numbers 1–99, as well as 0 and 00. The club reserves 0 and 00 for alternative, clash, and loan purposes.• Each member may nominate a preferred jersey number between 1 and 99.• If the chosen number is available within the player’s year of birth group, it will be assigned.• If the chosen number has already been allocated for that birth year, the member may request it, but if a future number clash occurs, they will be responsible for purchasing a new singlet.• Number requests are subject to availability in the selected size and may be immediately available for collection.• If the preferred number is not in stock, the member may: o Select from available stock, or o Request a special order (approximate processing time: up to 6 weeks).• The assigned number will remain with the player until: o They are no longer a member of the club, or o They order a new singlet and request a different number.
Handling Number Clashes
If a number clash occurs, the resolution will depend on the cause:
• Club Administrative Error: The club will provide an alternative singlet at no cost.• Playing Outside Natural Age Group / Pre-Existing Number Conflict: If the clash occurs due to a member electing to play outside their assigned age group or insisting on an already allocated number, the member must purchase a new singlet.• Unauthorized Uniform Acquisition: If a member obtains a uniform with a different number without notifying and receiving approval from the club, they will be required to purchase a new singlet.
